Charles Alexander: Running the Rock to Bringing the Heat

Then:

Considered the premier running back in LSU history during his playing days, Charles Alexander was a two-time All-America (1977 and 1978) with the Tigers in the 1970s. A bruising runner with breakaway speed, Alexander set numerous records as a Tiger and finished his playing career sitting atop nine SEC statistical categories and 27 LSU marks. Alexander, a native of Galveston, Texas, capped his career with the Tigers rushing for 4,035 yards and 40 touchdowns. He became the first player in SEC history to break the 4,000-yard mark in a career and he was the first in league history to score 40 rushing touchdowns. His 43 rushes against Wyoming in 1977 still stand as school record, while his 4,035 career yards rank No. 3. He became the second running back in LSU history to break the 200-yard mark in a game when he rushed for 237 yards in a 56-17 victory over Oregon in 1977. Alexander went on to be named SEC Player of the Year in 1977 after setting the conference rushing mark with 1,686 yards.

And Then:

Alexander was drafted in the first round with the 12th overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1979. He enjoyed a seven-year NFL career, all with the Bengals, from 1979-85. During that span, he played in 102 games (73 starts) and rushed for 2,645 yards and 13 TDs. His best season as a pro came in 1980 when he rushed for 702 yards on 169 carries. He became the first Bengal to score multiple TDs in a postseason game when he did so in a win over the Bills in the divisional playoffs in 1981. He helped lead the Bengals to Super Bowl XVI in January of 1982 when the 49ers posted a 26-21 win over Cincinnati. Alexander retired from football following the 1985 season.

Now:

Since retiring from football, Alexander has been named to the College Football Hall of Fame (2012), the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame (1989) and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame (1993). He spent time working in the oil and gas business as well as being an assistant director of LSU’s Tiger Athletic Foundation. He continues to be an avid supporter of LSU football and can be seen in the stands for most games. Alexander spends most of his time now running his business – “C’mon Man” Cajun seasoning. The founder and creator of “C’mon Man” Cajun seasoning, Alexander has his products – Cajun seasoning, fish fry, crawfish, shrimp and crab boil, and hot sauce – in locations throughout Texas and Louisiana.
