Tigers Showed Their PRIDE with Tie-Dye!
56 LSU student-athletes and staff attended “Wear your Pride” Wednesday, an event that aimed to show support for LGBTQ+ student-athletes and to celebrate Pride month.
The event was a collaboration between the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, the Black Student-Athlete Association, the Leadership Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Tiger Life. This year’s event, which took place at the PMAC south pad, marks the first Pride event that SAAC and BSAA has hosted.
Student-athletes and staff were invited to stop by to make tie-dyed t-shirts, socks and scrunchies with their pride colors. Allies and LGBTQ+ Tigers alike showed out, enjoying the music, Italian ice and sense of community that the event garnered.
”I thought it was a great event for all our athletes to come and engage (with) the activities and even take a little something home with them,” Alia Williams, a senior LSU volleyball player, said about the event.
Abby Maoz, a sophomore member of the LSU swim & dive team, said the event was a great opportunity to connect with other student-athletes. “It was really nice to spend time with the staff outside of school as well. It really showed how they support us and are people we can come to for things outside of school and athletics,” Maoz said.
