Spotlight on Sport Psychology & Counseling: Christine Sotile, LCSW
Christine is an experienced mental health professional who currently serves as a Coordinator of Student-Athlete Mental Health for LSU Athletic Department’s Sport Psychology and Counseling Services. Christine is passionate about working with college-aged student-athletes and, as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), she strives to assist students in cultivating holistic development and in learning how to handle today’s challenges and issues.
Christine works directly with students facing a multitude of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma, grief, feelings of low self-esteem, eating disorders, academic concerns, substance use, and relationship issues. In addition to counseling, she is an advocate for student athletes to help them achieve community support and take advantage of a variety of campus resources. She provides a number of different services, such as individual counseling, team building, program development and leadership training.
Christine previously worked as a Strategy-Tutor in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes. In this capacity, she facilitated the students’ transition into college and helped them adapt to the challenges of university life. She received the Tutor Spotlight Award in 2013 and Tutor of Distinction Award in 2015 for her service and commitment.
Christine has also worked with LSU Mental Health Services, where she provided assessment, treatment planning, and psychotherapy services to students, and at the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center, where she led group grief counseling sessions and handled crisis calls.
A native of Prairieville, La., Christine is a graduate of Louisiana State University where she received her Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Education. Professionally, Christine is a member of the National Association of Social Workers in Sports (NASWIS), National Association of Social Workers (NASW), American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), and Louisiana Group Psychotherapy Society (LGPS). She resides in Baton Rouge with her husband, Steven, and they have three children, Caroline, Stephanie, and Joseph.
