Returning to Football After COVID-19 Infection

The impact that COVID-19 had on the health, safety and overall wellness of athletic departments, their staff, and student-athletes across the country is something that we continue to focus on. Through collaborative research efforts with the LSU School of Kinesiology, LSU Athletics began to ask some specific questions about the COVID-19 infection and how salivary immunity markers varied throughout the course of infection and subsequent to the 10-day isolation period.

This research has now been published in the journal Nature within Scientific Reports. The study entitled, “Salivary Immunity of Elite Collegiate American Football Players Infected With SARS‑CoV‑2 Normalizes Following Isolation,” continues to add to the growing body of knowledge related to salivary immunity and the ability for elite athletes to recover and limit secondary infections.
