GEAUX Be Great!

The LSU Black Student Athlete Association is proud to launch sign-ups for our staff 2024 MLK Day of Service. We celebrate MLK Day as an official day of service to celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We come together to help build a stronger community through unity, service, and transformation. We embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities. With these ideals, BSAA has selected five sites across Baton Rouge to serve this MLK Day.

Where can you lend a hand?

Cat Haven

Cat Haven aims toward rescuing felines in our community and finding them forever homes.

Volunteers will assist in organizing supplies for the shelter, help clean cat cages and rooms, and of course spend some deserved quality time with more than 25 feline friends.

Front Yard Bikes

Front Yard Bikes works to create a safe space for youth from low-income families to realize their intrinsic worth, while they learn, grow, and build!

Volunteers will help out in the community garden, team up with one of the Front Yard Bikes kid staff members to disassemble bike donations for parts and assisting in adding a fresh coat of paint to the organization's fence and benches.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run provides researched-based curriculum and programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness and decision-making skills

Volunteers help to package supply bags for workshop group leaders and make tutus and bandanas for future Girls on the Run 5K runners.

Empower 225 Dream Center

Empower 225 offers programs and resources for all ages to empower youth and families to escape the cycle of poverty and violence.

Volunteers will help design & facilitate drills for their respective sports while the children rotate from station to station in small groups in a field day style event.

 Empower 225 Anchor House

Empower 225 Anchor House provides stable housing and support for homeless or at-risk male youth ages 16-21 in Baton Rouge.

Volunteers will add a fresh coat of paint to the walls, spruce up the yard and flower bed, and assist with a few other household tasks.

We hope that you will join us and truly honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by getting back and helping us to improve and support the community around us. Contact Director of Student-Athlete Engagement, Tomika Smith to learn more!
