Faculty Athletics Rep Dr. Martin Awarded AAAs Highest Distinction
CONGRATULATIONS LSU Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Lori Martin on receiving the Department of African & African American Studies (AAAS) Transcendence Award, the department’s highest distinction. The award is given for a combination of extraordinary achievements in African American life and culture through scholarship, business, and/or the arts, a marked contribution to AAAS and LSU, and invaluable support to the department’s Inaugural Chair. The Transcendence Award will be presented at the award’s 30th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, October 25 at 5 pm in the Honors College on the campus of LSU. This celebration will highlighted by not only Dr. Martin’s award, but by keynote speaker Ruth E. Carter, two-time Academy Award winner. The theme will be “‘This Is How We Do It’: 30 Years of Transcendence.”
The role of the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) is to serve as a liaison between the Athletic Department and the academic community. The FAR helps to ensure academic integrity, institutional control, and supports student-athlete welfare. Dr. Martin has led our Athletic Department through a transformational shift over the last 4-5 years. Her hands-on engagement with fostering the development of councils like the Athletics Culture and Engagement Leadership Council and her active engagement and outreach within the Baton Rouge community sets her apart from all others!
